The takeaway

Henkel Corp. is recalling 25 lots of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip 6.76 fl. oz. extra-strong mousse, sold to salons in 12 states, after packaging defects let the aerosol cans leak and rupture under pressure. The FDA-posted recall, announced August 11, followed one customer complaint and two salon reports, including a hand injury. Consumers can return cans for a full refund.

Henkel Corp. is recalling 25 lots of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip extra-strong mousse after learning the aerosol cans can leak and rupture under pressure, creating what the company describes as an explosion risk. The recall, posted by the FDA on August 11, covers the 6.76 fl. oz. (200 ml) cans distributed to hair salons across 12 states through 21 distributors.

What triggered the recall

Henkel says the action followed just one customer complaint and two reports from salons, including one incident in which a stylist reported bruising to a hand. The company has not disclosed the exact packaging flaw beyond describing it as an issue that lets the pressurized product escape the can unexpectedly.

Which lots are affected

The recall covers 25 specific batch codes; Henkel has not made the full list public in consumer-facing materials beyond directing affected salons and retailers to check lot numbers against its distributor notice. Consumers and salons with the product should stop using it immediately.

What to do if you have this product

Return the can to your place of purchase for a full refund. Henkel's customer service line is 1-800-234-4672, available Monday–Thursday 6:30 a.m.–4 p.m. and Friday 6 a.m.–noon Pacific time.

A busy month for beauty recalls

The Osis Grip recall was one of two beauty-adjacent items flagged in the Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall roundup for the week of August 14, alongside a separate warning about imported hot-air hair dryer brushes sold online. Neither recall has been linked to serious injuries so far, but regulators are urging salons in particular to check inventory given how these products are used in enclosed spaces near clients' skin and hair.
