The takeaway

Planet Fitness reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $365.2 million, up 7.1% year over year, with net income of $67.1 million. Same-store sales grew a modest 1.7% as membership growth cooled. The company repurchased $200 million in shares and raised its full-year adjusted EPS growth outlook to about 6%, from 4%.

Planet Fitness grew revenue 7.1% in the second quarter of 2026 even as the pace of new membership growth cooled, the company said in results released the week of August 6. The gym chain leaned on share buybacks and equipment sales to support earnings while same-store sales growth slowed to 1.7%.

Buybacks over expansion

Planet Fitness repurchased about 4.0 million shares for $200 million during the quarter. We are moving quickly with several actions to clearly communicate our differentiated welcoming, non-intimidating environment.

What it means for members

The results didn't include any announcement of dues changes. Planet Fitness said it still expects to open 180 to 190 new clubs and place 150 to 160 new equipment orders for the full year, suggesting expansion continues even as same-store growth slows. The 1.7% same-store sales figure is below the pace Planet Fitness posted in prior years, though the company's release did not specify a cause for the slowdown.
