JKMAX blankets and heating pads sold on Amazon overheated in 577 reported incidents before the CPSC stepped in.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and JKMAX have recalled about 195,000 heated blankets and heating pads after receiving 577 reports of the products smoking, melting, or burning, including 53 documented burn injuries. The internal wire heating elements can overheat, the CPSC says, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.
What's recalled
The recall covers JKMAX-branded heated blankets and heating pads sold in blue, gray, brown, and red, under model numbers JKMAX-002, JKMAX-7284B, JKMAX-6284B, JKMAX-10090B, and JKMAX-8490B. The machine-washable polyester products come with a detachable white remote control and were sold individually or in two-packs exclusively on Amazon.com between September 2022 and July 2026.
The scale of the hazard
With 577 reported incidents of smoking, melting, or burning and 53 confirmed burn injuries, this is one of the larger heating-product recalls of the year. The recall was announced September 17 by the CPSC in cooperation with importer Jiande Pengshuai Trading Co., a China-based company, as recall number 26-778.
