Ritchey Design has recalled roughly 775 carbon-fiber bicycle forks sold on gravel, road, and mountain bikes after the company found that an alloy insert in the fork's crown hole can work loose, according to a recall notice posted August 13, 2026 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. A loose insert can let mounted accessories detach and strike the front wheel while riding, creating a fall or crash hazard.
Which forks are affected
The recall covers Ritchey's WCS Carbon Mountain Adventure Fork, WCS Carbon Brevet Road Fork, WCS Carbon Adventure Gravel Fork, and WCS Carbon Tapered Adventure Gravel Fork, along with Montebello, Septimer, and Outback framesets that come with an integrated version of the fork. Ritchey Design is based in Reno, Nevada.
What CPSC says happened
CPSC has logged one report of the crown-hole insert loosening. No injuries have been reported. The agency is nonetheless telling riders to stop using bicycles equipped with the recalled fork immediately and to inspect the crown hole for any attached items, such as a fender or light mount, that could detach.
What to do if you own one
Ritchey is offering a free Fork Crown Hole Closure Kit. Riders can register at ritcheylogic.com/support/recall or contact the company at 800-748-2439 or ritcheydesign@ritcheylogic.com to confirm whether their fork is included and arrange the fix.
The recall applies to forks and framesets regardless of where the complete bike was purchased, since Ritchey forks are sold both directly and as original equipment on bikes from other brands.
