Hyperfuels LLC has recalled about 124 methanol and ethanol fuel containers after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission determined they violate multiple federal safety standards, creating both fire and child-poisoning hazards. The Houston-based company announced the recall September 24.
Why they're dangerous
The CPSC says the containers lack required flame-mitigation devices, creating what the agency calls a "deadly flame jetting hazard." Separately, the methanol container fails to meet child-resistant packaging standards, meaning young children could access and swallow the contents — methanol is toxic if ingested. The agency also cited labeling violations. No injuries have been reported.
