The takeaway

CPSC has recalled about 1,694 COMMOWNER electric pressure washers (models HD14P-Z and HX18) because they lack a required ground-fault circuit interrupter, raising shock and electrocution risk, especially with extension cords. No injuries have been reported. Owners should stop using the washers immediately and follow the importer's cord-destruction process to receive a full refund.

About 1,694 COMMOWNER electric pressure washers have been recalled because they lack a built-in ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), a safety feature that cuts power to prevent electric shock, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced August 13, 2026. The washers' short power cord may also push owners toward using an extension cord, which the agency says adds to the shock and electrocution risk.

The models involved

The recall covers COMMOWNER electric pressure washer models HD14P-Z and HX18, imported by AZ Home Concept Ltd. No injuries have been reported to CPSC in connection with the units.

What owners are being told to do

CPSC is telling consumers to stop using the recalled pressure washers immediately. The remedy is a full refund, but it comes with an unusual condition: owners must first destroy the unit by cutting the unplugged power cord in half, photograph the cut cord, email that photo to the importer, and then dispose of the washer before a refund is processed.

How to get a refund

Email a photo of the cut power cord to pressurewasherrecall@outlook.com to start the refund process. CPSC says not to use the pressure washer again once it's identified as a recalled unit, even on a GFCI-protected outlet, since the product itself does not meet the mandatory safety standard.

Pressure washers are common late-summer purchases for cleaning driveways, siding, and patio furniture; CPSC's warning applies specifically to the two COMMOWNER models named in the recall, not electric pressure washers generally.
