The takeaway

Tapestry closed 64 Coach and Kate Spade stores in fiscal 2026, even as it opened 66 new Coach locations and six Kate Spade stores. Coach revenue rose 24% and overall net sales grew 14% for the year, while Kate Spade sales fell 10%, as CEO Joanne Crevoiserat touted a path toward Coach becoming a $10 billion brand.

Tapestry, the parent company of Coach and Kate Spade, closed 64 directly operated stores across the two brands in fiscal 2026, which ended June 27, even as it kept opening new Coach locations and grew total net sales 14%.

Store count breakdown

  • Coach: 24 stores closed, 66 new stores opened; ended the year with 973 locations
  • Kate Spade: 40 stores closed, 6 new stores opened; ended the year with 326 locations
  • Stuart Weitzman: sold in August 2025 after closing 17 stores in fiscal 2025

The closures follow a similar pattern in fiscal 2025, when Coach closed 40 stores and Kate Spade closed 37, as Tapestry continues to prune its physical footprint even in its stronger-performing brand.

The financial picture

Tapestry's fiscal 2026 net sales rose 14% year over year. Coach, the company's largest and most profitable brand, grew revenue 24% and brought in roughly 11 million new customers, 35% of them Gen Z shoppers. Kate Spade's revenue declined 10% over the same period, reflecting the brand's ongoing repositioning.

Coach is bringing new consumers into the category and growing the market...we continue to see a clear path to Coach becoming a $10 billion brand.

What's next

Tapestry's strategy is to concentrate store growth in Coach, its strongest brand, while shrinking and restructuring Kate Spade's retail footprint in an effort to rebuild the brand's profitability and relevance before reinvesting in new locations.
