Decathlon America is recalling about 1,150 Van Rysel GRVL AF gravel bikes sold through REI after discovering that the front lock nut can loosen during use, which can allow the front wheel to dislodge or become unstable and create a crash hazard, according to a Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice. The company has received no reports of injuries.
Which bikes are affected
- Van Rysel GRVL AF models: Sword Brown CN FR (8911304), Apex Beige CN FR (8911305), Sword Pink CN FR (8911308), and GRX Black (8929130)
- Sizes X-small through X-large
- Sold at REI Co-op stores nationwide and REI.com from March 2025 through August 2026
- Priced between $1,400 and $2,300
The fix
CPSC's notice, a Fast Track recall dated October 8, says riders should stop using the bikes immediately. Owners can bring the bike to any REI Co-op location for a free inspection and repair of the front fork assembly. Those who can't get to an REI store can contact Decathlon customer service directly at 415-408-5494 or support.america@decathlon.com.
Why gravel bikes keep showing up in recalls
Gravel bikes — built for riding on unpaved roads and light trails — have become one of cycling's fastest-growing categories in recent years, and with that growth has come a wave of component recalls as manufacturers scale up production quickly. The CPSC issued recalls for several bike brands' front fork and wheel hardware in 2026, underscoring the agency's advice that cyclists periodically check that axles, quick releases, and lock nuts are properly tightened before riding, regardless of brand.
