Aurobindo Pharma USA is recalling 112,932 bottles of Amazon Basic Care Extra Strength Acetaminophen (500 mg) after the company received consumer complaints about discolored tablets. The recall, which Aurobindo initiated September 18 and the FDA posted October 2, 2026, spans three package sizes sold exclusively through Amazon.com Services LLC.

What's wrong with the pills

The recall notice cites discolored tablets — pills that should appear white to off-white but instead showed a different color. As of this writing, the FDA has not assigned a risk classification (Class I, II or III) to this recall, meaning the severity of any health risk from taking a discolored tablet hasn't been formally determined yet.

What to do if you have one of these bottles

Check before you take it

Compare the lot number on your bottle against the list above. If it matches, don't take the tablets — contact a pharmacist or your healthcare provider for guidance on disposal and whether you're owed a refund from Amazon.

This isn't the first time

This is at least the second discoloration-related recall tied to Aurobindo's acetaminophen production for Amazon's store brand. In 2025, the FDA classified a separate recall of about 4,600 bottles of a different Amazon Basic Care acetaminophen product (325 mg, lot AEF124004A) as Class II — meaning the agency judged the defect could cause temporary or reversible health effects — after similar brown surface discoloration was reported.
