General Motors is recalling 29,347 Cadillac Optiq electric SUVs from the 2025 through 2027 model years because a software defect in the power windows' express-up feature can fail to detect an object in the window's path, risking a pinched hand or arm before the window reverses, according to the recall filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
What's actually wrong with the windows
The Optiq's front windows can be raised remotely using the key fob's express-up function. In the affected vehicles, the anti-pinch sensor meant to detect resistance and reverse the window before it closes fully doesn't reliably catch an obstruction. That failure violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 118, the federal rule governing power windows specifically to prevent this kind of injury.
Which vehicles are covered
- 2025, 2026 and 2027 model-year Cadillac Optiq electric SUVs
- Approximately 29,347 vehicles in the recall population, per GM's filing with NHTSA (campaign number N262567230)
- No injuries had been reported as of the filing
What Cadillac is doing about it
GM says it will update the body control module software at no cost, either through a dealer visit or an over-the-air update, depending on the vehicle. The company expects to begin mailing formal notification letters to owners on November 9, 2026.
If you drive an Optiq
You don't need to wait for the mailed notice. Call Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, or check your vehicle identification number at NHTSA.gov (or call the agency's hotline at 1-888-327-4236) to see if your SUV needs the update and to schedule it.
In the meantime, it's worth using the window switch's manual, non-express mode and keeping hands, children and pets clear of closing windows — standard precaution for any power window, and especially relevant given this specific defect.
